"Ready to Tackle Your Big Scary Life Goals and Kick Procrastination to the Curb?"

How do you use time?

Is time always flying away from you? Do you waste hours in front of the TV or doing stuff to distract you from loneliness or boredom?

Do your habits leave you feeling drained, ashamed or low energy?

If you answered yes to any of these, you’re in good company.

What if God gives us just £100 worth of energy to spend each morning?  Not a penny less, not a penny more. When it’s gone, it’s gone. How would you spend that mental and physical energy differently?

Because, it kind of does work like that and I bet you already know that inside:)

We run out of mental or physical energy in the afternoons and then crave biscuits and cake.

We reach for another wine in the evenings to cope with unhandled daytime stress, un-attended hunger, fatigue or loneliness.

We distract ourselves from our boredom and un-met internal goals and dreams by scrolling on TV’s, social media or gossiping abut others.

I use this adapted version of Steven Covey's 'Circles of Control' tool to help my clients drop the

confusion and noise so they can finally:

lose the worry and the weight;

drop the un-managed stress and the unhealthy habits it engenders;

move location, job or social circle

find the partner we’ve been longing for.....

a.k.a. pursue Big. Scary (and really exciting). Life. Goals.

Because that stuff out there in the outer circle, they’re distractions which keep us in other people’s business and therefore, out of our own lives and not focussed on what really matters. By not getting clear on what’s not ours to contend with, we remain stuck in circles we needn’t be in; in habits that keep us overweight, bloated, tired, stressed and irritated.

My coaching clients come to me because they are people on a mission, really open to think in new ways, so they love it when we work on their personal ‘Circles of Control’.

Take a look at this image . What’s inside and outside the circle for you, my friend?  I’ve written some examples there to get your mind thinking … Take some time to reflect on what strikes you this week as you look at this circle. How does it feel to realise how much energy you’ve been giving to stuff that’s really none (or in some cases only some;) of your business?

What might get done if you were to decide to really get IN your own business - working on this stuff?

I’m excited to think of it!

To do this week

Look at the image and ask:

  • What you’ve been devoting energy and time to that you want to drop now.

  • What you might have energy and time to spend on instead.

  • How will you ensure this happens?

Next week. I’ll share a worked example of how I coach clients to work through the issues that come up when doing this exercise -for example, sometimes, we need to set a boundary with others or even have a tricky conversation or just even a plan for ourselves in terms of how to handle things ahead of time.

Until next time, my friend, if this week feels like Week 1 in 2024, know that I am with you, cheering you on.  Make it your Week 1 if now feels like a good time to start a new habit. Because we get to start afresh every day so don’t worry if your January’s gone a bit haywire. The key is to start again - don’t give in to that voice in your head that points to previous mis-steps. That’s distracting you out of your Circle of Control and back to your circle of confusion and disempowerment, worrying about what others think of you or past mistakes.

Get out of there.

Today is a new day…
